Critically acclaimed actress Seema Pahwa, who made her directorial debut with ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’, has said that she didn’t have technical knowledge of making films but she made the family-drama film with a lot of emotions. She also urged to audience to watch the film in theatres and extend their support during the time of pandemic towards entertainment industry.
Seema Pawha was interacting with News Helpline at the special screening of ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’ along with her actor husband Manoj Pahwa on Friday in Mumbai.
In the film, Ramprasad’s (Naseeruddin Shah) entire family gathers under one roof for 13 days after his death, to perform and observe the Hindu traditions and rituals called the tehrvi. During the course, the family’s dynamics, politics, and insecurities come out, and then they realise that the importance of people and things are only evident in retrospect.
When asked Pahwa what kind of challenges she faced to release the film during the time of global pandemic in theatres as a first time director, she said, “As a first time filmmaker, I faced a few more challenge because I didn’t had much technical knowledge about making of films and I didn’t know what’s a commercial value of the film but I have made with this film with a lot of emotions.”
She added, “Now, because of the beginning of the New Year, people are still out of town for holidays and there is still fear of Covid-19 among people, so to release this film in such a period was a big challenge in itself. But I am feeling happy also because in my first attempt, I am facing such kinds of challenges. If I cross these hurdles successfully then it will be a lot of fun but if I face a failure then also I will be fine with it.”
‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’ released on Friday and it became the first Hindi film release of year 2021, sharing her feeling after the release of the film, Pahwa said, “Earlier, I have heard many filmmakers saying that a film is like their own baby and as an actress I didn’t used to understand that. But today, I have realised why they say like that because when you see your child growing up, you feel happy similarly, I have the same feeling today as my film has released in theatres.”
She added, “People are still scared to come into theatres because of what happened with us last year, so I don’t blame them for it. It is obvious that people will first think of their safety but I think we all need to face this problem (global pandemic) together, so I don’t think we will gain anything by staying at homes for the longer period. I think the entertainment industry has entertained people the most during these times, so I would urge them to come to theatres to watch our film by following all safety norms.”
The film premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival on 17 October 2019.
‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’ is produced by Jio Studios and Drishyam Films and it stars Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, Vinay Pathak, Vikrant Massey, Konkona Sen Sharma, Vineet Kumar, Manoj Pahwa and Parambrata Chattopadhyay in key roles.
